Rules of the Bulletin Board

1. What is the Bulletin Board

The purpose of the Bulletin Board is to allow residents of Hankham to post messages to be read by other residents of Hankham.

Examples of the type of messages which might go on to the bulletin board are as follows:-

  • I thought I might organise a craft morning. Is anyone interested?

  • I wanted to see if anyone in Hankham is interested in forming a book group.

  • I am trying to get a team together for a pub quiz.

  • I was planning to go to play / music event / similar. Anyone want to come with me?

  • I have some objects I no longer have any need for, and looking to give them away.  Does anyone want them?

  • I need to borrow an object.  Can anyone help me?

  • I need a tradesman.  Does anyone know of anyone reliable?

  • I could do with some help with ……  Can anyone help, please?

  • I am holding an open garden to raise money for named charity.  Please come along.

  • Anything else within the spirit of the above.

2. What is not acceptable?

The following are not acceptable:-

  • Advertisement of commercial ventures.

  • Sale adverts – we want to operate on a “freecycle” principle, where unwanted goods are given away, not sold.

  • Anything advertising an event outside of Hankham – but you can see if people want to join you on a social basis to go to a play or music event or similar.

  • Anything political.  Typically this includes issues about the roads, parking, the state of the hedges or planning issues.

  • Anything illegal or defamatory – obviously.

3. How do I post something on the bulletin board?

If you want to post something to the Bulletin Board, then please send an email with the wording of the notice you wish to post with your name and contact details to info@hankhamvillagesociety.org.

An officer of the Hankham Village Society will review the proposed notice and if it conforms to the guidelines, will post the notice to the Bulletin Board.  If not, then you will be informed.  Allow three days for a notice to be posted, although it should normally be posted sooner than that.

Notices will be taken down the day after the date of a relevant event or, if no date is specified, at an officer’s discretion, but normally after two weeks.

4. Other important things

Activities and events posted on the bulletin board are not organised by the Hankham Village Society, and therefore Hankham Village Society is not responsible for any event or activity attended in response to a bulletin board notice.

Hankham Village Society is not responsible for any goods exchanged or services provided in response to a bulletin board notice.  The acquirer takes at their own risk.

Hankham Village Society does not endorse any recommendations made by any person in response to a bulletin board notice.

Hankham Village Society will not accept liability for failing to post any notice.

You must put full contact details on your notice so that anyone interested can respond directly to the person posting the notice.  Hankham Village Society will not act as an intermediary in relation to any bulletin board notice and will not pass on any messages sent to it in response to a bulletin board notice.

The decision of an officer of the Hankham Village Society will be final and binding on the parties concerned without appeal.

By asking to post a bulletin board notice or responding to a bulletin board notice, you accept the above conditions.
